Fruits and vegetables are our first line of defense against disease and illness. Promoting a powerful immune system, optimal brain function, energy, and an overall armor of well being, fresh produce is the key to maintaining the best quality of life.
I recently posted a survey on my social media platforms inquiring how people get in their recommended 5 daily servings of fruits and veggies. While I promote and advise on consuming more fruits and veggies as possible on a daily, I realize it's not always the most convenient thing to do. We haven't even touched on keeping up with buying in season, preserving the produce, and oh yeah, the whole skyrocketing inflation issue currently plaguing us. Then there are those that simply don't care for the taste or texture of vegetables all together.
So clearly, it’s not always easy to get in our fruits and vegetables like we should. In fact, the above seems to make it feel downright impossible.
Luckily, there are a number of ways to make sure that you are getting the nutrients your body needs to function at its best.
Check out the ideas below that are great ways to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet, remember, they do a body good!
Smoothies: Smoothies are a great way to get in fruit and veggies without having to even chew! You can add roots of turmeric, ginger, and other healthy ingredients like chia seeds or protein powder.
Salads: Salads are an easy way to add vegetables without adding too many calories. But watch the dressing amount and additional non-veggie toppings so you don’t negate the healthy benefits of eating your veggies all together.
Wraps: Wraps with whole grains and lots of veggies make for a filling meal that’s easy on the waistline! What's more is that there are also lettuce leaves and veggie wraps available to package these veggies in. Nutrition loaded and convenient!
Supplements: Vitamin supplements are a great way to incorporate the vitamins and minerals of produce in your diet. These pills/capsules contain extracted nutrients that you can easily swallow with a glass of water. There are also green powders that are freeze dried whole fruits and vegetables that you simply mix in water or juice/smoothie for an even more added boost. There are even supplements in gummy form!
Without a doubt, consuming the daily recommended allowance of produce is difficult, and hopefully you have been enlightened to try one if not all ways of the ways above to get in your necessary nutrients. However, be mindful that the body processes and optimizes at peak performance when these vitamins and minerals are consumed whole.
Fortunately in my survey, the consuming of fruits and vegetables in salads, wraps, and even purred in smoothies, received the highest votes. Although, my dear cousin suggests a light steaming is all you need, and I must agree!
